APlot hole 🕳️ is a work for a post-truth landscape, navigating the unreality of worlds made & unmade by misinformation - assembling parts to make temporary wholes & delving into the gaps between. An assemblage of light, image, body & text, the work reflects the paradoxical experience of isolation & fragmentation in a frenetically connected world, where meaning & fact slip through the gaps.

A plot hole is a gap in logic, a gulf in narrative that is wider than our suspension of disbelief. Here it is a tool for considering how information is experienced in a post truth world, where the powerful spin fictions & gaps in meaning open up all around us. The work considers the plot holes in dominant narratives, the fakes, blind spots & conspiracies, & how ideological mythologies leap over truths in plain sight.

The work creates illusions, reframes & mimics the digital - threads of narrative, broken logics, images & refracted light slip through the material of the body - leaving holes & gaps, smoke & mirrors. Narratives are constructed & reconstructed, meanings shifting as parts are rearranged. Voices warp, subtitles melt & tremble, running across walls, hands reach - but never touch, distance & space fold in, shadows more present than flesh, sources obscured. Immaterial forms inhabit the empty air; the void is far from vacuous.

The work reaches into & across the distances between reality & illusion, knowledge & understanding - in a complex world we cannot to grasp things too big for us to truly comprehend, like climate change, like global systems of power - inventing conspiracies, believing fallacies, losing the ability to discern the real from the unreal.

Nothing is as complex, or as simple as it seems. Perhaps the truth is hidden in plain sight. Back in Plato’s cave, the reality we understand is not the whole story - was that truth or…shadow?
